Learning how to negotiate is one of the most interesting classes I’ve ever taken, but it’s sad attending a class when most of the class consists of arrogant pricks. First class in all my time in UWA that has made me feel upset working with Australians - and they have been such friendly, amazing people since day one of my stepping into Perth.
My aunt has been very outspoken about them in the most negative way possible, but I have always stood up for them, because you can’t just make friends with people of a different culture and country just by sitting, waiting and wishing. We’ve got to learn and respect their culture, adapt, and put in effort and make as much conversation as possible. I never thought she understood that. I know this might sound very UN-ish but I honestly think it’s the same with every race, every culture and every country - it’s not because the people are rude or insolent or proud or overly-cynical, it’s because we as foreigners don’t put in enough effort to try. We should, because then we would’ve fully experienced being in a different country - through its most important resource - its people.
